Saturday CLUB (!) MTB Ride
Well, three of us turned up for a club ride this morning, none of us had been on one before and we were all interested to find out how far, how fast, would we fit in? We were there for 9.00 for the 9.15 departure as advertised in the newsletter, waited till 9.45. One guy turned up in black but went as quickly as he had arrived, we didn't even get chance to speak to him. No others riders showed their faces.
The guys in Fearns confirmed we were in the right place at the right time, they were as confused as us.
Thanks for the club ride, or are you all frightened of a bit of rain?
Luckily we had some local knowledge ourselves and went our own way. Two youth riders and one parent not impressed by the club turnout!

Hello Paul
I have been on a number of the MTB club rides. I have never turned up when there is nobody riding.
They sometimes arrange rides in other areas for example I know that they went to Dalby Forest early August, so this must have been the Saturday you turned up.
I have found the group very friendly and welcoming and put on a very good ride with tea shop. Normally sat rides get between 10 - 18 riders all ages and abilties.
Dont let this one experience put you off.

Thanks Teresa,
It was last Saturday, 14th. As it says in the newsletter 9.15 at the cp opposite Fearns, it is quite clear. No mention of a meet elsewhere.
Hiya Paul
Yes you are right the Newsletter alway defaults to put in 9.15 in Matlock. Any other locations will not be put in a newsletter, as the alternative rides are arranged on club rides. But generally if they do a alernative ride there is normally enough other riders who dont go to do a decent club ride from Matlock.
I must say I think this was a very rare occassion that nobody was out riding. I have turned up to around 20 rides in the last 12 months and there has always been a good turnout.
You only get to know if they ride in other locations by finding out about it on the club rides. It is a very relaxed informal group and it goes with the flow really.
Hope this helps
Teresa
If that is the case, how are club members supposed to find out about these changes to events,if they are new or didn't go that week, makes it seem like a very closed shop. Would the club website not be the right place to advertise changes to club events, assuming its a club event and all are welcome. Even the clubs iCal is not up to date to show ongoing events.
I think people should look at Sherwood Pines CC or Bolsover and District CC website's to see how they communicate to their members as I think a lot could be learnt.

Paul,
I think it's unfortunate that you've missed out on this occasion, but if/when you make it out on a Saturday ride, you'll find it about as far from being a closed shop as it's possible to be.
The MTB ride is and always has been a low-key and relaxed setup, many of those (perhaps a majority, it's been a long time since I went on one) who go out aren't club members, so there'd be a limited benefit to advertising any changes on here or in the newsletter.
I wouldn't let this setback put you off.
