A25/11 course Etwall
Hi all, just noticed young Patrick is riding the Etwall course this Sat, does he have any knowledge of the course, first time up can be a bit confusing and it's lack of marshalling. I would hate to see a young lad get lost!
please tell/advise him of the route: wish I had prior to missing one of the many roundabouts on my first encounter of the course(didn't know until I had finished either!)
Good luck and a fast and safe ride.
I'm doing it myself and also haven't done it before.
Nearest to a route map I have found is:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Etwall-25-A25-11
and you need to look out for the Little Chef where you turn around here:

Sorry for the long link but it sends you to Streetview.
I didn't realise there was a lack of marshalling, but then who would want to stand on the A50 for a few hours?
Mike
Whilst I'm on...
What is the etiquette (if any) for riding a duel carriageway such as the A50?
Do you generally stay the roadside of the white line or on the kerbside of it.
Mike
ayup Mike ,
Thanks for that ,
I found last time I road on a duel carrage way i tried to stay about half a meter away from the white line, trafic generally tends to have alot of room to overtake on the duel carrgeways round there .
Pat
-I am right that its saturday not sunday arnt I ?
( p.s map was great help )
Whatever you do on there, don't start too hard. The first mile-and-a-bit until you get onto the A50 is quite sticky, if you red-line it there then you'll pay for it later on.
(From someone who is guilty of doing exactly that!)
HI Patrick
Yes it's definitely tomorrow...Saturday.
See you there.
Thanks for the advice Lee.
Is the start in Main Street coming north out of Etwall do you remember. The start bumph says Derby Road but that is farther south and doesn't approach a roundabout (also mentioned in the details).
It would also be the only way the course could be 25miles.
Mike
Yes, it's on Main Street as you head north, about half a mile out of the village and just before the roundabout.
Good luck!
Hi well done patrick he did a 1:02:35 and I did a pb myself 1:02:02
mike bradley did 1:05 short one and i left before the rest of the crew finished
ayup,
Thanks, well done,
Will be riding 25 on that course next year as it seemed to be a good course.
Looking for courses to go under hour next :)
Hi Patrick,
I was the last Matlock rider to finish and managed a new PB of 59:34. My only other attempt on the course was a minute quicker in much better conditions but unfortunately i wasn't allowed to have it as an official time because i was late to the start!!! Nevermind.....
It is definitely a course for aiming for sub hour but the wind really whipped up as the afternoon wore on so it may have left you feeling as if sub hour is a long way off on that course. In better conditions you'll have a great chance!!
Well done Neil.
First official sub 1 hour is that for you?
Congrats to Martin and Patrick...good rides there too.
Quite pleased with my time, 3 minutes off my PB and as you say the wind was in our faces going out.
Did the 12 miles from the turn in under 28 minutes though :o)
The traffic on the A50 was a bit disconcerting at first but I soon phased it out once I concentrated on riding and not the noise. I found overtaking other riders was the worst bit as I had to move further into the carriageway. Only had to do it a couple of times though!
I'll have to save up for one of them there TT bikes to go a bit faster next time :o)
