INTER CLUB CHALLENGE
This is on the Merc website...
I been talking with Sue from Pennine and Shards from Matlock - ran into them both at the Derby Cycle Day - and we might have a proposal for the A50 interclub for next year
In the meantime i been talking with another Matlock man about an Interclub this year. Use one of their 10s (tues or thurs) and one of ours - ideally Windley as its their side of town and it wont take them so long to get there on their tractors.
Proposal is
Thurs 29 Jul Matlock long hilly (10.4mile) starts Cromford area 7pm ish
(doesnt clash with our tues and is a bit closer to Derby than the Darley Dale tuesday course)
Tues 3 August Windley - usual DMRC meet up, etc
5 riders to count in each event, doesnt have to be the same 5 riders - thats too complicated
1 junior/ youth
1 lady/ youth female
3 seniors (could include at least one Vet)
add the best 5 times togther in line with the above, for the 2 events. The winner gets a nice shiny trophy that Matlock already have
who's in?
for the Matlock event - we could meet up at the Palm Court 5-45pm ish and ride up to the start together. Maybe a beer on the way home (except for the youths, who can sit outside with a coke and crisps......)
jim
TRACTORS?!
Gloves are off.....
This could be fun!!
If anyone wants to meet me and have a ride round the Windley course just give me a shout.
Is it just one lap of the circuit, starting somewhere on the bottom road near the pub? Just over 10 miles?
That was the circuit used in the 2-lap open events on there. The bit around Kedleston to the top of Cumberhills always seemed the hardest.
Yeah it's 1 lap(10 mls) and it starts further back towards Duffield now, i think it's by the last house and a 30mph sign.
It's a bit of a grind by Kedleston but a super fast down hill to the finish, you can hit 50mph no problem.
I think the Windley climb is the hardest bit, it just keeps going....greeny will like it!
I never used to mind Windley hill itself, one of those ones that's so hard you just don't have time to notice the pain!
Fastest on the full-on TT bike or does road bike and tribars still cut it? There's a lot of long draggy downhill as opposed to the steep drop through Tansley on ours, I suspect that all the gear will make a difference.
I think the only TT I've won is the Windley one and that was on a standard bike no gubbins against DM riders in TT kit. It probably would have been a little quicker on a TT rig given the flat ride out into the headwind but not a lot in it. I'm up for this but might struggle a little to get to the Windley one in time...
I do it on a TT bike and i think i'm a minute quicker than ChrisM's time :-) 26:17.
What was your time Chris??
It's my favourite Merc course, glad we're using it
Will we be able to get Vicky and Patrick to race?
*checks old training diaries to see if 44/21 is low enough to get up Windley*
TT bike it is then!
I remember getting team prize on Windley a few years ago. Yes, me! A prize!!
Chalky won it, Eric came somewhere, I came last and thanks to a puncture and another mechanical we were the only team of three to finish!
Ok confession time, the "Matlock man" mentioned at the top is me. Jim (merc chairman) and myself have been plotting and thought an inter club would be a good idea. Are you all up for it?
Are we better than Merc?
Dates as above
29th July , our long hilly
3rd July, their Windley course.
Result based on accumulated time of fastest 5 riders to count in each event for each club.
Result must include
1 junior/ youth
1 lady/ youth female
3 seniors (including at least one Vet)
If you don't know the Windly course, don't worry, it will be marked out as will our course for the Merc riders.
The A50 interclub mentioned at the top already happens between several clubs, hopefuly we will be included next year!
How about a point or two for every rider that competes/completes? That way everybody's effort contributes towards their club result.
This was organised as a spur of the moment thing, thought we would just get on with it and have a go so we made up some rules. If folks are keen we can alter the rules in the future.
It woud be good to figure out a way of making everybody's effort count but if you give every rider who turns up points then you could win by sheer numbers of riders. All suggestions welcome.
Chris Mottram suggested that we run it on a points not time basis. Running it on aggregate time means that just one superbly good rider can throw the whole thing out of kilter.
If we repeat next year it would be good to use a flat course and a hilly course to give the flatlanders thier chance to shine.
So then chaps, now that we have given them a thrashing on our course who's up for doing the same on their turf?
Hope to see a good turn out tomorrow.
Yep, will be there tomorrow. Couldn't make it last Thursday.
I'll be there, giving a couple of other riders a lift too.
That's great, I would encourage as many people to come and rise as possible as I don't think Chris Green or Leigh Fearn are able to ride.
Chris is concentrating on the 5 and Leigh has injured his back.
Any chance of Mr/Dr Metcalfe making an appearance for the club? Especially as he has been beating Clarlkie in hill climbs recently.
I'd love to but I've got to get a ferry to the Isle of Wight tomorrow evening, but I'll see what I can do...no promises!
The faster you ride, the faster you can get on that ferry!
I'll be there and Steve.S
Yep - I'm going as is Kevin White.
I'm signing on at the start though as won't make it in time for 6:30pm at Darley Abbey.....
I know Vicky is going to try and get there but she isn't 100%, is there another lady out there???
Patrick, are you doing it??
