Selection Criteria for Major Youth Events in 2012

The East Midland Region are again funding a Youth Squad for 2012 to a number of Exciting BIG Events.

Supported Events:
6th - 8th April Youth Tour of Scotland
6th - 9th May UK School Games London Road and Track London
31st Aug - 2nd Sept Inter Regional MTB TBC
14th – 16th Sept Inter Regional Track Champs Newport

Selection criteria:

Youth Tour of Scotland - Road
Performances in early Season Events in 2012 and also performances in 2011 will be taken into consideration due to the closing date for these events being only weeks away.

Eligibility: Youth A Boys Team of 4, Youth A and B Girls Team of 4

UK School Games - Road and Track
Performances in early Season Events in 2012 and also performances in 2011 will be taken into consideration due to the closing date for these events being only weeks away.
Riders wishing to be considered for the UKSG are also expected to have some indoor track experience.

Eligibility: Youth A and B Boys Team of 4, Youth A and B Girls Team of 4

For Youth Tour of Scotland and UK School Games, due to the short time scales and early closing dates, riders wishing to be included in either team are strongly encouraged to enter the following events;
Darley Moor Circuit Race 10th March
Barkston Heath on the 17th March

Inter-Regional Track Champs
We will be using the Northern Rounds of the National Youth Omnium Series
· Scunthorpe Omnium May 19
· Newcastle under Lyme Omnium May 20
· Manchester Omnium June 16
· Forest Town Track League July 16
· Scunthorpe Track League August 10

Riders are to ride at least 3 of the 5 events including 1 of the Track leagues.
(Please note for qualification for National Omnium Final you will need to ride 3 of the 5 Omnium Series rounds)

Eligibility: Youth A and B Boys Team of 4, Youth A and B Girls Team of 3

Inter-Regional MTB Champs
We are still finalizing the selection for this event, details will follow shortly.

Eligibility: Youth A and B Team of 4, Youth A and B Girls Team of 4

For all Events we will take into account riders being “Bike Racers”, and:
· Attacking riding – ability to make repeated efforts.
· Bike handling ability – cornering skills etc.
· Finish position.
· Tactical awareness.
· Riders racing at a Level in line with the Events we will be attending.
· Being Self-Responsible and able to function under their own steam.

*Riders wishing to be considered for the UKSG are also expected to have some indoor track experience.

Riders will be expected to contribute £50 towards the cost of the Inter Regional Track Champs and Inter Regional MTB champs.
For the Youth Tour of Scotland, £75 due to the higher costs involved. UKSG is FREE.

Closing date for registering your interest in riding for the Regional TEAM is 8 pm Sunday 5thth February

Only riders who register their interest will be considered for selection.

We also require riders to include a brief response to the following questions:
1. Why would you like to ride for Team East Midlands?
2. What is Team?
3. What was your highlight of 2011 for cycling?
4. What was your Favourite Event to compete in and why?
