Young Riders
There are plenty of things for the younger riders in the club to be involved with.
Coaching Sessions
Coaching takes place usually twice a month (see dates in the newsletter) at 9.30 on a Saturday morning at Whitworth Park in Darley Dale. The activities are run by British Cycling qualified coaches and include basic riding skills, developing confidence with individual and team exercises and games.
The children involved in these sessions range in age from around 4 to 12 and vary greatly in ability.
The aim of each session is to improve the ability and confidence of young riders in challenging and fun ways.
The club also runs three weeks of cycling activity sessions each summer for Derbyshire Dales District Council.
Award Scheme
We have an award scheme to encourage riders to develop, with a bronze, silver and gold award. To see what is required to achieve one of these levels click here.
British Schools Cycling Association
The British School Cycling Association runs regional and national events for young riders with Matlock CC hosting some events. East Midlands events are listed in the newsletter and details of national events can be found on the BSCA website.

Track Racing
There are opportunities for young riders to try their hand at track racing. Manchester has the best indoor track in the country and from time to time we have a club session there. These sessions are open to riders 9 years and above, keep an eye on the newsletter. Our nearest outdoor track is at Forest Town on the outskirts of Mansfield.
The season there is from Mid April to the end of August. Racing takes place on Wednesday evenings with alternating seniors and youth races. It’s free for young riders and they can ride any sort of bike. For more information contact Richard Thoday
Cyclo Cross
Cyclocross is an excellent chance for a racing experience. The local Notts and Derby cyclo cross league has around 15 local events each season (Sept to Feb) with each one having races for all ages of riders. Races are catagorised into age groups so there is something for all the family. For more information see the cyclocross page of this site.
Club Nights
The club meets socially in the Barn near St Giles on a Thursday evening. From September to March we have a programme of Thursday evening events with the first Thursday of each month aimed at younger members. For more information see the social page of the website or the newsletter.
