Club 10 No.10 - 15.07.08

A warm evening enticed 18 riders out for the Club 10 on Tuesday most notable for the absence of Peter Colledge. With a win up for grabs Chris Green was favourite with Belper’s Jonathon Marshall also in with a chance of winning.

A stiff Westerly wind made the outward leg quite difficult with a tailwind of sorts on the homeward leg. However, as is usual up the A6 corridor the wind often seems to swirl in certain areas giving the impression that there is a headwind in both directions!

Chris Green, off last, went the fastest on fixed gear to record 22-51 and beat Jonathon Marshall by just 16 seconds with the Belper rider recording 23-07. Second claim rider Mark Shardlow finished third in 23-28 with Matt Ingram fourth in 23-54.

Chris Sharp suffered mixed fortunes on the night having sheared a spoke in his rear wheel which meant he rode the course with a buckled wheel; however this paled into insignificance when youngster Patrick Smart was knocked off his bike in Bakewell. Luckily Peter Colledge - who lives in Bakewell - saw the incident and assisted Patrick. Carl Dyke also jeopardised his ride to help. Plucky Patrick remounted and finished the race though visibly shaken. Let’s hope this doesn’t put the youngster off racing.
