Club 10 No.7 - 24.06.08
Favourable weather conditions on Tuesday night encouraged 27 riders to turn out for Matlock’s Club 10 including riders from Belper BC, Derby Mercury, Heanor Clarion and Sheffield Phoenix Cycling Clubs.
For the first time season a club event was won by a visiting rider with Belper BC’s Dave Wallwin securing a very narrow victory over Matlock’s Peter Colledge with only 8 seconds separating the first four riders.
The prevailing wind was favorable resulting in a tailwind out to Bakewell and a headwind on the homeward leg with which Dave recorded 22-25 to beat Peter by just one second. In third place and riding gears and not the usual fixed gear was Richard Cordin who finished only two seconds behind Peter but 5 seconds ahead of Belper’s Jonathon Marshall who finished fourth in 22-33. These four riders look set to challenge each other in the weeks to come which can only make the racing more interesting.
The next wave of riders were only separated by a mere three seconds with Matt Ingram recording a season best time of 23-39 in 5th place; with Steve Strange only 3 seconds back in joint 6th place which was also a new personal best. Derby Mercury’s Mark Shardlow riding the course for the first time tied with Steve for 6th place with both riders recording 23-42.
