Young Riders Fund- claim form
Riders under the age of 23 are invited to apply for a grant from the Young Riders Fund. The closing date for applications is the 28th Feb 2010 for the year March 2009-March 2010.
Our Club has the Fund above to help young riders progress in all the branches of the sport of cycling administered by the British Cycling Federation and English Schools Cycling Assocation.
It was started in 1984 with a donation of £50 and some smaller sums of cash as a means of commemorating the untimely deaths due to accidents of two very promising Club riders, Stephen Noble and Mark Hughes. Some of their cycle equipment was donated to be sold to add to the Fund and from this the idea of an auction to raise funds was born, and in 1990 the first auction was held and then every year since and with the twentieth in 2009. In the auctions, the lowest amount raised has been £38-00 and the highest was £285.39, with an average of about £100 each year.
Providing cash help towards the cost of young riders competing in the name of the Club at Regional and National level was thought by their parents to be a worthwhile objective as opposed to using monies raised in their memory for a trophy.
If you want to help raise funds, then come to the Auction (usually in February) and either bring something to sell or buy something, because that is where most of money raised comes from.
WHO SHOULD CLAIM?
The Fund is there for any of our riders, boy or girl, up to the age of 22 years who competes for Matlock CC at Regional or National level and it has become the practice in addition to award special grants to those riders who get chosen to ride for Great Britain at International level. The rider is normally expected to finish the event competing in.
If you do not make a claim, then you will miss out on the incentive on offer.
There is a long list of names of our riders who have benefitted over the past years. You could add your name to it.
HOW DO YOU CLAIM?
A claim for help must be in writing to the Fund's Trustees at the end of the season. The season starting in the Spring of each year and ending when the Cyclo-Cross season finishes, meaning the Trustees expect all claims to be with them by the end of February each year. Our Treasurer, Harry Gould is a Trustee and he is happy to receive your claim. Chris Mottram and Keith Noble are the other active Trustees who can receive your letter if you wish. There is a claim form available on the club website to help with your application.
Your note, email or letter, should state a list of the events competed in, their dates and whether they were Regional or National. You can show the cost of your entry and distance travelled if you wish.
We need your request to be in writing as a record of how the Trustees allocated the funds at their disposal. Earlier, it was stated that the Auction raised on average about £100 per year and to this is added Bank Interest and donations received. Due to the economic problems of 2008/2009, Bank Interest is expected to be almost nil and our income will therefore not be to the level it has been until Interest Rates increase.
Recent practice, has been to award up to £10 per event finished, with larger sums for riders successful in Regional and National events and the grand total awarded and shared between the riders claiming each year approaches £150 on average and sometimes reaches £400 when Championships are won or Matlock CC riders have competed for Great Britain.
